Vineyard: Selected bunches from different plots. Applied methods from own research and development on polymerization of tannins and anthocyanins. Grape harvest: From the 22nd of September to the 29th of September. Fermentation: In French oak vats, with controlled temperature. Aging: In 100% brand new French oak barrels. Stabilization: Completely natural methods, clarification with egg whites. Color: Almost impenetrable with purple notes. Nose: Great complexity, very small black ripe fruits but fresh among them blackberries, blackcurrants, blueberries. Chocolate and mint, sweet spices, Indian ink, moist ground before rain. Palate: The volume is enormous, it occupies so much space in the mouth and the aromas emerge by the retro-nasal passage. Great presence of small black fruits with great freshness, butterscotch. Fine tannin. It seems impossible that a wine is so powerful and silky at the same time. The aftertaste is endless leaving all the sensations described in the nose, but especially all the black fruit.

Vineyard: Bush vines over 30 years old, yields limited to 1,5 kgs. per vine. Grape harvest: From the 25th of September to the 21st of October. Fermentation: In French oak vats, with controlled temperature. Ageing: In 50% brand new and 50% second use French oak barrels. 16 months in barrel and 20 months cellaring in bottle. Bottling: March 2009. Stabilization: Completely natural methods, clarification using only egg whites. Colour: Deep burgundy red background with bright red hues in the rim. Nose: Very intense, red cherry aromas of great complexity mingling with a noble wood bouquet, subtly spicy, all in great balance. After airing the wine in the glass for a few minutes, the red fruit takes over, enfolding all else but showing a hint of cocoa in an elegant, refined manner. Palate: Medium to full bodied, enveloping silky smooth texture, ripe red cherry fruit with hints of sweet spices, very fine, fresh tannins, giving way to a fresh, fruity finish of great length. A complex, elegant wine with great balance between the ripeness and freshness of the fruit and the subtlety of the oak management. A wine with no troughs, showing well the characteristics of the 2007 vintage and it is fresh, Atlantic influence.

Vineyard: Bush vines over 30 years old, yields limited to 1,5 kgs per vine. Grape harvest: From 12th September to 9th October. Fermentation: In French oak vats, with controlled temperature. Ageing: In 50% brand new and 50% second use, French oak barrels. 16 months in barrels and 20 months cellaring in bottle. Bottling: June 2009. Stabilization: Completely natural methods, clarification using only egg whites. Colour: Deep red, against a cherry background with scarlet edging. High-to medium-depth colouring. Nose: Very smooth and intense, with the waves of Atlantic freshness typical of vintages from the high, westerly provinces of La Rioja. Upon impact, these waves of aroma release alternating impressions of red and black fruits, cherries and plums. Hints of minerals develop in the nose, along eith smooth, fresh spices. The wine conveys the sensation of a stroll through the woods, among the fallen leaves and the damp earth, while at the same time providing a reminder of minerals, the cocoa and the plums that are so typical of RODA I. Taste: Elegant, delicate, with a good body that persists throughout the mouth without diminishing. Silky tannin. The fruit is very complex and spicy, moving through the mouth before finishing with an explosion of freshness. After drinking, the wine leaves very fine aromas of fruit, along with hints of woodland and earth that hark back to a rainy spring and cool summer, with a fine autumn that adds the signatory flourish to one of the best Atlantic-style vintages we have produced.

Our double grape checking, both on selection belt and on tasting the musts, means that we exclude 50% of the harvest. Slow fermentation in new French oak and 3 months on fine lees are the secrets of this careful production process. Straw yellow with golden hues. Very bright and clear. On the nose you are surprised by the fennel-honey combination with hints of green apple, pineapple and citrus fruits. A pleasant, tasty attack. A perfect triangle of lees-minerals-acidity gives it a lovely sensation of plenitude, freshness and complexity. In the retro-nasal phase the profile totally changes. The pineapple and citrus fruit come to the fore and much more faintly, you can detect very fine oaky spiciness of great quality. Although it is ready to be enjoyed to the full, you can sense that it will continue to improve, promising even higher levels of enjoyment in the future.

Direct pressing, fermentation in 1,000 litre vats at 14º. It is then aged on the lees for a further 4 months before the addition of expedition liqueur. Second fermentation takes place in the bottle at 12º for 4 months and then it remains in riddling racks for a minimum of 14 months more, always at the same low temperature. Colour: Its very bright, soft salmon colour is due to the garnacha grape variety. Thanks to its slow fermentation, this cava has a very fine, persistent, legant string of bubbles which reveals the care with which it has been made. Aroma: The surprising aromatic complexity of this cava, with tropical fruit, citrus aromas giving freshness and youthfulness combining at the same time with ripe fruit such as peaches and quince, is a real joy. Palate: It has a slightly sweet attack moving gently into crisp acidity. The pleasant sensation as it enters the mouth surprises you with the fine quality of its bubbles and does not prevent you from appreciating the elegance and complexity that the influence of the time on the lees has had in its evolution. In the aftertaste, reinforced by the fizz, you can again find the aromatic palette that we enjoyed on the nose. It is a cava which will not leave you unmoved and its persistence is a sure sign of its great quality.

his wine is aged for 6 months in wooden vats, 18 months in new French oak barrels and at least 12 months in bottle. Very deep, dark black cherry colour, closed at the heart, almost opaque; purple hues. Young-looking with very little sign of evolution. Sensations of concentration and depth, with lots of barely defined nuances which will develop over the coming years in the bottle. Fruit sensations predominate, with reminders of red-berries and small, very ripe, wild fruit (blackberries, blackcurrants, wild strawberries), floral notes (dry violet petals) and minerals (graphite, iron); spicy hints from the ageing process (evoking the spice rack: nutmeg, cinnamon, black pepper) but with very discrete wood (the sensations from ageing in the cask rather than of the cask itself), and underlying ink. Powerful, big. On the palate, a powerful backbone with good body and very fine, firm tannins and splendid acidity. It gives a solid sensation with no cracks and no sharp edges, solid , with great balance giving a fresh sensation. Supple and full of flavour, with wide, complex reminders of fruit, minerals, spices and ink in the mouth aromas (reproducing the sensations on the nose but perhaps even more defined and sharp) and in the long, full, elegant aftertaste. It is still taking its first steps in life, with a lot of vigour and noble strength, but it already shows great elegance and a balance which is seldom found in wines with this profile. A great red with no holds barred, ready to take on anything the world can offer.

The grapes used for making Prado Enea, along with those for Torre Muga, are always the last ones to be brought into the winery. This late picking ensures ideal ripening. The grapes are then fermented naturally in 10,000-kilo oak vats with no temperature control or added yeasts. The maceration time can vary and may go on for up to twenty days. This wine is aged in 16,000-litre capacity oak vats for twelve months and then (minimum) thirty-six months in oak casks and (minimum) thirty-six months in the bottle. After cask-ageing the wine is gently fined using fresh egg whites. Intense ruby-red, cherry heart and slight brick-red tinge at the edge. The colour has not developed very much. Expressive, well defined aged character but with reminders of the fruit. A base of very ripe red fruit (plums, blackcurrants) cloaked in a fairly classical bouquet which gradually opens up more subtle nuances as the wine is aired. First come the hints of fine wood (cedar, fresh acacia bark), then lots of spicy aromas (cinnamon, cloves, black peppercorns) and finally reminders of tobacco leaves and tea to round off an overall impression combining a clear classic character with very modern vitality. Balanced on the palate, with body and liveliness, the tannins well tamed by the ageing but still there, providing sensations of noble strength, consistent, full mouth-feel, lively, well integrated acidity and wood, full of taste and suggestive mouth aromas in which the fine reminders of ripe fruit are more apparent, persistent, supple finish inviting you to have another glass. An exemplary Gran Reserva, well developed and full of vitality. Expression of the fruit, with the classic Rioja bouquet (with no animal notes or any sign of oxidation) and with the fine, lively character of a red from the Rioja Alta.

Fermentation with indigenous yeast in oak vats. Aged for 26 months in casks made from oak specially selected from our cooperage. Before bottling the wine is fined with fresh egg whites. Once bottled it will undergo a process of rounding off in the bottle for twelve months in our cellars. You can find good, even depth of colour with purple glints right in the heart of the glass without the least sign of oxidation. Its nose preserves the character which defines this harvest: the fruit a rung below the dominant ripeness which mingles with hints of liqueurs which you can only find in this wine and not in the rest of the range from the same vintage. The tertiary aromas come through in the form of leather and very faint hints of cloves and mountain herbs. It is on the palate that it reveals its greatest strengths: fruit you can almost chew, soft, silky tannin, a good level of acidity and infinite mineral nuances. The synergy of these sensations creates a really powerful impact on the taster. The features detected in direct olfaction are repeated in retro-olfaction, but almost in reverse order. The fruit, now a little riper, comes to the fore, the spices from the oak and the mountain herbs rise to the same level and the hints of liqueur disappear. While it is already a more than satisfactory, it needs some time in the bottle for its aromas and flavors. A little patience will be richly rewarded.

Fermentation in oak vats with indigenous yeasts. Aged for 24 months in oak casks selected from our own cooperage. before bottling the wine is fined using fresh egg whites. Once bottled the wine is rounded off in the bottle for a further minimum of twelve months in our bottle cellar. This 2011 wine looks back with respect towards the previous vintage, the fabulous 2010 wine, one of the greatest we have ever produced. With a totally different character, this wine shows off its elegance and soft, sweet ways, its complexity and its freshness. Medium-high, shiny red robe, very pure, almost monochrome, but with increasing depth of colour from the rim towards the heart of the glass. Very fruity on the nose, but with a very different profile to the 2010 wine. This vintage has rather fresher fruit and floral notes which are present in all the phases of the tasting, but without becoming dominant at any time. You can find fresh, jammy cherry, red-berry fruit compote, a touch of liquorice and aniseed, and hints of fennel and white blossom. The rich spectrum of aromas is so great that it barely leaves room for the hints of oaky spices to make an appearance. These are hard to pin down, but we think you can find traces of caramel, vanilla and coconut… Smooth mouth-feel with a predominance of sweet, well-rounded tannins, quite a surprise when you remember the age of the wine. A presence of natural acidity which has become blurred and in no way intrudes. There is less fruit and more spiciness in the retro nasal tasting, with cherries but also vanilla, wild shrubs, black pepper and a little leather. The floral nuances disappear in this phase. The aftertaste is long and silky, with a curious mixture of the sweet shop and mineral sensations coming through. It is difficult to “assign it to a sea”. The debate on whether it should be classified as a “Mediterranean” or “Atlantic” style wine is complex. Perhaps during its evolution over the next few years it will develop a sharper leaning towards one or the other.
