This vine is a true “rarity”, found only in this part of Piedmont, and can be cultivated only in a limited area around the Montemagno Estate. This magical wine owes its current fame among enthusiasts to two personages from Castagnole Monferrato. The parish priest, Rev. Giacomo Cauda who, during the late Seventies, dedicated himself enthusiastically to the production of Ruché, and the Mayor, Lidia Bianco – once the secretary of the Asti agrarian school – who committed herself to getting the wine certified with the name of its controlled origin, attained, in fact, in 1987. It is a wine of supreme elegance, velvety and persistent. Production area: Montemagno (Asti) – Monferrato. Quantity produced: N° 6.253. Terrain / Vineyard: Clayey calcareous with marls that have a slight touch of limesilt, with alkaline ph and strongly water-retentive; vineyard with south-west, west exposure. Vinification / Fining: Crushing-destemming with controlled temperature fermentation and pre-fermenting maceration at 10° C for 3 days and subsequent fermentation with light pumping over to the surface for 7-8 days. Colours / Reflections: Pale ruby red with garnet reflections. Fragrance: Has intense hints of fresh roses, violets, ripe red berries and eucalyptus. Taste: It titillates the palate with a captivatingly spicy note of pepper and cinnamon. Combining Ideally accompanies tasty main dishes and typical Piedmontese specialities such as “bagna cauda”, “ragout a la financiere” or “agnolotti” (ravioli); ideal for oriental cuisine as well. Also interesting as an undemanding, meditation wine.
