Limited edition, recommended for fans of native tastes. WINE REGION: Villany, southwest of Hungary. VINEYARD: Varoshegy vineyard – southerly facing area with a constant breeze. SOIL: Limestone bedrock, loess and clay topsoil. VINES: Planted in 2004. Density plantation: 1,8 m x 1m. CULTIVATION: Cordon royat. 2013 was a „roller coaster" year with lurid weather periods. April started with snow for example, and left with heat. Early and prolonged flowering was followed by hot and dry summer with cooling down at the end. Harvest lasted from September till October – because of the slower ripening and it was done intermittently. Thanks to the beautiful Indian summer in late October all the grapes ripened well. We expect good acidity and moderate alcohol & intense, fruity, refreshing wines. HARVEST: 21st October. By hand in 15 kg crates. YIELD: 26 hl/Ha. MATURATION: The fermentation took place in open vats with several short pumping over. The total period of maceration on the skin was 10 days. The maturation took place in barrels of 225 l made out of Hungarian oak (405 new, 60% elder ones). Bottled in May 2015 after 15 months of barrel ageing. TASTING NOTES: Elegant, rich and well – poised Blaufränkisch with lovely varietal notes. The trademark of the Blaufränkisch is the ripe black sour – cherry, which is enriched with gentle barrel spices (coffee, cocoa, peanut butter). Lively – vivid acidity, complex, sturdy and taut structure. Capable of long bottle aging. Limited edition, recommended for fans of native tastes. Consume at 17 °C. MEAL SUGGESTION: Perfect for fans of native tastes. For example with traditional Hungarian cuisine or even heavier meat dishes. STORAGE: Nice and mature wine, recommended for fans of native tastes – open a bottle any time!

A typical primeur wine made differently from other reds, the process called whole cluster fermentation. The wine starts fermenting without oxygen so the wine is born inside the berries. This technique preserves the fresh, fruity quality of the wine, thus need to be consumed cooler than red wines in general, at 12-13 ºC.

This year spring arrived very early and the summer was much warmer than in previous years. We started the challenging harvest on the 8th of September and it lasted till the end of October. During the beginning of the harvest we had cooler, moister weather, but in October it became warm and sunny, which was good for the late-harvest varieties. MATURATION: Made from the fine must (meaning without pressing) of pinot noir. The fine must, which flows out by itself, is clearer and better quality; it is the “soul of the grape”. Fermentation was done in cooled stainless steel tanks (on 15°C). As a result we got a light, bright rosé base wine, to which we added carbon dioxide (2,5 g/l) in several steps during the bottling to achieve a light, gentle bubbling. Pearly wine is similar to sparkling wine, but it contains less carbon dioxide. TASTING NOTES: A delicate shade, a “ballerina”, amongst the full-bodied red wines of Villany: it is playful, ethereal, lively, intensive and elegant. Pinot noir gives lively fruitiness, elegance and depth to the sip. From the colour to the fragrance, it is an elegant, ethereal, real ‘pink character’. On the palate it is full and juicy with lively fruitiness of exotic fruits and red berries and ends with long lingering with the hint of pink grapefruit. Our pearly wine is named after the 14th letter of the Greek alphabet. It is the sound you hear, when you open up a bottle of refreshing KSZI and the pearling bubbles come to the surface.

The wine is named after a character of the ancient legend of Villány: the Witch. Blend of Welsch- and Rhine Riesling, made reductive and marked by citrus zest with dry, vivid acidity. Although the two Rieslings are not related as vines, they create a harmonic blend with domineering lemon and grapefruit notes and a hint of typical Riesling tartness. Serve well chilled (9-10˚C) as an aperitif or with fish, white meat and salads. It purely embodies the wine for “everyday drinking”.

Vintage evaluation: Nice vintage, which had some challenges as well. In spring and early summer there was fairly much rainfall, sometimes even with rainstorm and hail. The summer was sunny and warm. That was even crowned with a beautiful autumn weather with a lot of sunshine during harvest time. A very balanced nice vintage was born. Age of the vines (years): 11-14. Vines/hectare: 7.200. Yield: 25 hl/ha. Method of cultivation: Middle cordon; 230 x 120 twin stocks. Harvest time: End of September – End of October. Vinification: The alcoholic fermentation happened in wooden vats, the malolactic fermentation in new barrique barrels. It was aged only in new, 300 liter barriques for 16 months. Characteristics: A possibility given by the vintage which is the selection of the nicest first filled barriques with wines intended to be Kopár cuvee, Cabernet Franc and Solus. In its nose complex and cumulative intensity can be felt. Eucaliptus, minerality, black chocolate – and with some aeration – rich fruitiness, black and red berries. In its taste there are also a lot of fruits. The wine’s mild but youthful tannins and smooth acids support the aroma, create nice balance and give rich, full sip together. Minerality and toasted characteristics accompany it through the tasting and in the long aftertaste too. It is complex, but will ensure even bigger experience if we give enough time for it. Ripeness: Well drinkable in present state, but it will reach its peak in cca. 2020-2022.

Vintage evaluation: Winter was unusually mild. The gemmation finished early – end of April, middle of May – according to the varieties. After this no intensive enduring heat came so the growth slowed down. The summer was unsteady – rainy and sunny periods followed each other. The slow growth delayed the harvest a bit, and the early grapes gave lighter, fragrant wines. At the late grapes the nice weather showed itself once again, so in the case of cabernets and merlot the must degrees developed well. It was expected as a harsh vintage, but finally can be deemed as productive. Age of the vines (years): 14-44. Vines/hectare: 5.400. Yield: 80 hl/ha. Method of cultivation: Middle cordon; 230 x 160 twin vines. Harvest time: Beginning of September. Vinification: Alcoholic fermentation in steel tanks at low temperatures to keep its fruitiness, then was kept in big barrels (50hl) for 4 months. Characteristics: In its color bright purple sour cherry hue. Its nose is characterized by crispy cherry and sour cherry. Thefruit aromas – which were kept by the gentle processing - are also appear in its taste. The short, big-barrel ageing gives a full taste for it. Pleasant, well-drinkable redwine. Ripeness: The real values of this wine appear when drinking fresh, but also endures few years in bottle.

Vinification: The fermentation happens in big wooden vats, and the malolactic fermentation is done in wooden barrel. The wine was aged in new barrique barrels (100% Hungarian) for 16 months. Characteristics: It starts with mineral, sweet vanilla aromas then the glass is filled by cocoa, dried plum with black chocolate, and redcurrant. Meaty, complex gusts, inwhich the deliberate barrique usage, the terroir and the ripe, healthy grape’s fruitiness make the whole. Due to its youngness the tannins are vigorous, but do not cover the wine’s various aromas. Full and complex wine, with long aftertaste and ageing potential. Ripeness: Well drinkable also now, but it will reaches its peak expectedly cca. 2018-2019.

Vintage evaluation: Winter was cold and relatively long. From April we had a beautiful sunny weather until July, when colder weather and more rain were dominant. It didn’t fall permanently but in great quantities at once. From the beginning and mid August we had nice summer weather again with really high temperature. This weather lasted until the end of the harvest which was in the first half of October. All along we had summer weather with 25-28 degrees without rain. The grape developed nicely in the whole year, the plantations showed extreme vitality, maybe they brought their best so far. Age of stocks: 12-17. Stock/hectare: 7.200. Yield: 25 hl/ha. Farming method: Middle cordon; 230 x 120 twin stocks. Harvest period: Mid September – Beginning of October. Vinification: Partly in steel tanks, partly in wooden vats; malo-lactic fermentation in oak. 60% aged in new barrique, 40% in big (10-25 hl) barrels for 16 months. Description: On the wall of the glass Kopar 2011 creates thick arches. The deep, dark colors show the usual concentration. In its nose it is already quite various: toast, cinnamon, blackberry, cherry, ripe sour cherry, small pepper, clove, vanilla, mineral marks. In its taste it is also complex. The pepper-mineral character can be found here too, which supplements cherry and black berries. The acids are nice, still vibrating. Tannins show more intense character but our wine is still in baby shoes. Its aftertaste is long, the barrique character hides inthe background nicely, so the fruits can play the main role. Shows elegant, light character, but also has specific weight, full bodied, and has long ageing potential. Ripeness: Well drinkable also now, but it will reaches its peak expectedly cca. 2020-23.
